Halloween is on Monday, October 31st. We will be having our Annual Halloween parade at 9:30 am. (PM Kindergarten will have their parade at 12:30) Parents, if you will meet in the gym, the students will make their way around to each of the classrooms, and then down through the gym so you can take some pictures. Please remember that masks and weapons (real or pretend) are not allowed, and because of the "scary clown" trend going on right now, we ask that your students don't come dressed as clowns this year.
You are here
Don't forget about the Halloween Carnival tomorrow night at the school at 6:00 pm! (Friday, October 28). Come dressed in your costume for a costume contest, bring your carved pumpkin for the Pumpkin Carving Contest, bid on a class baket in our silent auction, and come win prizes at the Teacher's Games! Dinner will be served, $4.00 a plate (includes a Sloppy Joe, chips and a drink). Game wristbands will be available for $5.00.
Last year Goshen Elementary received $24,847.00 from the State Lands Trust. Our School Community Council helped to identify four goals for our school to improve student learning. The goals are:
- Goshen Elementary will increase the number of students reading at or above grade level with an emphasis on third grade by May 29, 2016.
- Goshen Elementary will increase the Math proficiency levels for all students by 2% by May 29, 2016.
- Goshen Elementary will increase 4th - 6th grade student's science knowledge and abilities by 2% on SAGE Science test by May 29, 2016.
- Goshen Elementary will implement the Utah State Fine Arts Core into every grade level by May 29, 2016.
The money was used to pay salaries for two technicians that provided reading and math tutoring. This included working with whole class, small groups and individual students. Imagine Learning, a literacy software program was also used to help improve reading.
Substitutes were provided for teachers to review language arts, math and fine art curriculum maps. These were used to guide instruction in each classroom. Teachers were sent to art conferences to help implement art in the classrooms. Our librarian was sent to a literature conference. She then purchased library books for our students. She also created book talks to create enthusiasm for reading in our students.
Chrome books and classroom projectors were purchased for classroom use.
I appreciate the support of our School Community Council. They are concerned about all of our students and their academic success.
This year, the PTA is asking for each class to donate a basket to our silent auction being held during the Halloween Carnival. Each class has chosen a theme, and are being asked to fill the baskets with things that coordinate with their theme. The PTA would like to have the baskets gathered before Fall Break, so if you are able to donate anything to your child's class, please have it to your child's teacher no later than Wednesday, October 19th. THANK YOU!

This week's teacher spotlight is Mrs. Larson. Mrs. Larson teaches 3rd grade here at Goshen Elementary. This is her second year at our school, and her second year teaching. Before she started teaching here, she was a substitute teacher. She loves sharing stories with her students, and also loves camping, swimming, reading and spending time with her family. She likes Mexican food, ice cream, and root beer. Her favorite color is blue, she loves basketball and her favorite book is The City of Ember. A couple of interesting facts about Mrs. Larson is she went to Goshen Elementary as a kid and she lives on a Dairy with her family.
We are so glad that Mrs. Larson chose to teach at Goshen.
Here are the minutes to the School Community Council meeting that was held October 4th, 2016. Please be aware that the next meeting will be held on November 1st.
