 Goshen School LAND Trust Summary

2013-2014

Goshen Elementary had four funded Goals for the 2013-2014 school year:

Goal 1:  Goshen Elementary will increase the number of students reading at or above grade level with an emphasis on third grade.

We completed three Reading Benchmark Assessments on every student during the 2013-2014 school year.  We hired substitutes to allow the teachers’ time to complete the mid-year Reading Benchmarks.  The district provide substitutes for the fall and spring Reading Benchmark Assessments. We also hired substitutes so that our teachers could work on integrating Journey’s into their curriculum maps.

We hired four technicians to work with small groups, individual students and to oversee our SuccessMaker and Imagine Learning software program. We held Monthly Literacy Collaboration meetings with each grade level to discuss reading and literacy needs of students. Rotating Substitutes were provided.

We met with our technicians monthly to provide support and training.  We also discussed student progress and made changes in our tutoring schedule as needed.

SAGE data for the 2013-2014 school year has not been released.  Once it is released it will be used as baseline for future reports.

Goal 2: Goshen Elementary will increase the Math End of Year proficiency levels for all students.

Teachers worked on curriculum maps for math and prepared for a new district-wide math adoption.  Math fact homework sheets were sent home to help student’s math fluency.  Student’s participated in a schoolwide Math Excellence Competition in March.

Teachers used collaboration to analyze student math data based on their common assessments.  Teachers provide re-teach, extend and enrich activities to their students.

A trained technician worked with small groups and individuals students in math.  She also oversaw our Success Maker Math computer program.

Goal 3:  Goshen Elementary will increase student science knowledge and abilities.

Because of the new SAGE WRITING requirements, grade level teams did not meet to integrate the science core into their curriculum maps.  We focused on understanding the new writing requirements.  We will be integrating our science core during the 2014-2015 school year.

Goal 4: Goshen Elementary will implement the Utah State Fine Arts Core into every grade level

During 2013-2014 our school focused on Dance.  We worked with the District Dance Curriculum Specialist to learn the dance curriculum.  She helped our teachers by teaching dance vocabulary and modeling integrated lessons in first through sixth grades.  Teachers were provided with substitutes so they could collaborate with the district specialist to create six integrated dance lessons in first through sixth grades. Teachers also taught their lessons and received feedback from the district specialist.

As a school, we collaborated on how-to best support reporting of student participation in fine arts integrated assignments.  We are reporting dance as a participation/non-participation grade on report cards.  Goshen’s fifth and sixth grade teachers have included this on their report cards for the 2013-2014 school year. The remaining grades will include it next year.

The district received a fine arts grant and schools were allotted funds to purchase supplies to help teachers integrate fine arts.  This year we are purchasing supplies to help teachers integrate dance.  The district dance specialist is collaborating with our school to help us make wise and lasting purchases.

Technology:

We used Trustland money to purchase Chrome Books for schoolwide use and calculators for our sixth grades. The chrome books are used by every grade level.  Kindergarten through third grades teachers check them out to use for small group centers during guided reading.  Fourth through Sixth grades use them whole class and small group work.  Students are using the chrome books for reading, writing and math.

We appreciate the help of our School Community Council in reaching these goals.
