We had an awesome opportunity to have Miss Utah 2017, JessiKate Riley, come and visit our school on Tuesday. She talked to us about bullying, and how to handle it if someone is bullying you. Her catch phrase is "Shake it off, and take a step". She also entertained us by playing her violin, whose name is Sam and is 115 years old. He is from Austria. One fun fact about her, is that our own LeighAnn Penrod was her 1st grade teacher! Mrs. Penrod's class sure thought that was neat! We want to thank Miss Riley for taking time out of her busy schedule to come visit Goshen. She left a great message behind!
Announcing the first-ever NATIONAL BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION WEEK
Sept 24-Sept 30 Help our school start the school year off on the right foot by participating in the first-ever National Box Tops for Education Week. From coast to coast, communities across the country will be coming together to help earn cash for their local schools. Collections sheets are being sent home today with students from Goshen ElementaryPlease make sure the entire date shows and that it has not expiredTape Box Tops to the Collection Sheets and return to the school office. Thank you for your participation. It really does add up and help our school.
Don't forget that Monday is our first half day of the year. ALL students will be excused from school at NOON. (AM Kindergarten will run at their usual time, PM Kindergarten will not come this day.) Lunch will be served, but please be aware that if your child orders a lunch that day, and then decides at lunch time to just eat at home, their account will be charged your family's lunch price whether they eat or not.
Welcome to our first Where is Spirit Wednesday? Based on this picture, can you figure out where Spirit's first visit was? If you think you know, fill out the entry form in the office by Friday morning, and one lucky person who guesses correctly will win a prize!
Goshen School is so excited to bring the NOVA program to our sixth graders! The NOVA program is based on the principles of Nurturing Opportunities, Values and Accountability. It is presented by local law enforcement, and we are lucky to have Deputy Taylor from the Utah County Sheriff's Office teaching our students how to Illuminate the Path to Excellence. The NOVA program will be held every Friday afternoon until December, when the students will have a special NOVA Graduation to acknowledge their excellence in the program.
A HUGE thanks goes out to all of the grandparents that came and read to their grandchildren last week. The kids enjoyed having some special time to sit and listen to their grandparents read them a story, and have a special treat with them. It was a fun time, and the kids loved it! Thanks to the PTA for funding Grandparent's Day!
We would like to officially introduce our Mascot, Spirit the Falcon, to our school! We had a contest to name him, and the school picked the name Spirit, which is the perfect name for our school mascot!
We are going to be using Spirit in a weekly Website/Facebook contest we are calling "Where is Spirit Wednesday". Every Wednesday, we will post a picture of Spirit somewhere in our school. Students will have until Friday morning, before school, to figure out where he is and fill out the form in the office and turn it in. (Please note...he is not actually hiding in that spot. He just had a picture taken there.) On Friday Morning just before announcements, Mrs. DeGraffenried will pick a name from the bucket and she will pick a winner from the correct guesses to win some fun prizes! Spirit could be hiding ANYWHERE around our school in these pictures, so pay attention, and GOOD LUCK!!! (The contest will start NEXT Wednesday!)
