Amazing Tutor is Helping One Child at a Time

     Mike Christensen used to have grandchildren at Goshen Elementary.  Then he would come on a regular basis and help in the classrooms where his grandchildren learned.  Now the grandchildren are grown, but Grandpa Christensen still comes every Tuesday to help the rest of the students at Goshen Elementary.  He's been doing this for 8 years.     With Grandpa Christensen's beard of white, when he wears his Santa hat at Christmas time, quite a few heads turn in his direction to see if he is really Santa Claus checking for good boys and girls.&

January Citizens of the Month

The citizens of the month for January at Goshen Elementary are Ryann Thornton, Caleb Spencer, Payden Sorensen, Heidy Varela, Lindy Hampton, Mclayne Balzly, Brylee Oldroyd, Layne Osborn, Sky Simmons, Kaylyn Eastwood, Conner Raven, James Baum, Raquel Black, Adrian Rodriquez, Chelise Tromble, Alexys Palmer, Kelby Grill, Caden Eastwood, Carson Lavery, and Anna Wood.  The theme for the month was cooperation. These students can always be counted on to cooperate when working with others.

Spirit Day at Goshen

Goshen Elementary PTA sponsored their monthly spirit day by having students wear their school colors or school shirts.  Mrs. Renee Davis' second grade class won the traveling spirit trophy for having the highest percentage in her class participate in the contest.  The trophy is a wooden statue of a falcon, the school's mascot.

Gage Penrod Takes a Victory Lap

Roads to Success reading winner, Gage Penrod, son of Clint and Emily Penrod of Genola, won a new bike in a drawing at Goshen Elementary School.  In the picture above, Gage is riding his new bike through the halls of the school in a "Victory Lap" cheered on by his class mates and other students in the school.  Gage's ticket was chosen from thousands of tickets that were placed in a drawing.  Students earned tickets for every hundred minutes that they spent reading during the last term.  Goshen students have recorded over 726,000 minutes of reading so far th

Celebrating Statehood Day

On January 4,1896 Utah was the 45th state to join the Union.  The fourth graders at Goshen Elementary are learning about Utah history this year.  To celebrate Utah becoming a state each fourth-grade student rung the old school bell at the end of the day.  Students were interested to find out that Utah has been a state for 116 years.

Drama Performances

For a final project, students in Mrs. Monica Valerio's class wrote and prepared what they would perform to show a frozen picture of the beginning, middle, and end of their literature circle books.  A narrator would tell what was happening in that part of the book.  The students who were frozen would tell how they felt about the situation from a characters point of view when a person in the audience tapped them.  This was a great opportunity for students to share what they learned from books they were reading in class.

Books and Candy Canes

Each year at Goshen Elemenatary students celebrate the holidays by reading some of their favorite holiday books.  For Christmas, it is called "Books and Candy Canes."  Parents were invited to the school to come and read to students while they enjoyed a good story and a candycane.

Goshen's Citizens of the Month for November are Kash Strasburg, Skylar Black, Easton Thomas, Shane Pyne, Andrew Ewell, Keelee Bingham, Seiji Valerio, Dillon Ewell, Hope Williams, Elmina Clinger, Colton Shelly, Darian Piper, Audrey Sexton, Samuel Hanning, Selena Nieto, Edward Deeb, and Myra Ogden.  The theme for this month was fairness.  These students have been found being fair in class and outside at recess.

Spirit Day at Goshen

This is the second time this year that the students in Mr. Jason Dickie's second grade class has been honored for winning the school spirit contest, Each class counts the number of students who wears a school shirt, or a shirt primarily blue or yellow, the school colors.  There is a lot of school spirit in Mr. Dickie's class.

Goshen Winners of the Eureka Elks' essay Contest

Goshen Elementary School celebrated the winners of the Eureka Elks' Lodge's "Why I am Proud to Pledge Allegiance" essay contest. Pictured on the back row are all of the sixth grade students from Mr.Nate Holt's class that participated with their participation certificates.  Standing on the front row are Mr. Garth Bird, Goshen's principal; third place winner, Kennedy Guernsey; first place winner, Gage Judd; and Elks' Lodge contest sponsor Nick Castleton.  Missing from the picture was the school second place winner Courtney Osborn.
