William Matheny found out in a good way some of the hidden benefits of eating breakfast at school.  Everyone knows about the nutrition and satisfaction in a good breakfast, but few people know that you could also win a bicycle.  William, who is a kindergarten student at Goshen Elementary School, ate breakfast at school every day during the annual National School Breakfast Week, celebrated during the week of March 12-15 at the school.  His name was entered into the drawing each day for a brand new bicycle furnished  by the Child Nutrition Program at the district.&

For the month of February Goshen Elementary students were challenged to "click-it" and wear their seat belts whenever they were in a car.  Each day they marked off a card if they wore their seat belts.  At the end of the month students were awarded for wearing seat belts during the school's health and safety week.  Students also got to experience what it would feel like to get in a wreck going five miles an hour wearing a seat belt.  Pictured is Vanessa Sandoval and Lita Matheny on the Click-it Trailer as they crashed into each other.

Brent Boswell, the author of Big! Mean! Pig! and Mission Invisible visited Goshen Elementary and talked to the students about reading for information and fun.  He played a game where he showed pictures and asked if the picture was real or not real.  He told the students they could find all the answers by reading, just like he had done.  Mr. Boswell encouraged students to become better readers by reading more and more.

In sports they call it a three-peat when a team wins the championship three times in a row.  Mr. Jason Dickie's second grade class at Goshen Elementary has won the school spirit award three times this year.  You will notice the students holding up three fingers in the picture to mark this great event.  The Goshen PTA sponsors this friendly competition between classes.

Jose Vazquez Makes Reading History

Everyone knows the first book printed with movable type was by Gutenburg.  He printed the Holy Bible.  Who read the first e-book on-line at Goshen Elementary?  You may not know that it is Jose Vazquez.  Jose was selected for the honor because he checks more books out of the school library than anyone else (his mom tells him she wants him "to read and read some more") and because he has a computer at home.  Goshen Elementary has just acquired a "shelf" of e-books for their library.  The number one advantage is that students can read them on their iPads and

Mike Christensen used to have grandchildren at Goshen Elementary.  Then he would come on a regular basis and help in the classrooms where his grandchildren learned.  Now the grandchildren are grown, but Grandpa Christensen still comes every Tuesday to help the rest of the students at Goshen Elementary.  He's been doing this for 8 years.     With Grandpa Christensen's beard of white, when he wears his Santa hat at Christmas time, quite a few heads turn in his direction to see if he is really Santa Claus checking for good boys and girls.&
