Faculty Spotlight: Mrs. DeGraffenried

Submitted by krista.openshaw on

Mrs. DeGraffenried is the principal here at Goshen Elementary.  This is her fifth year at our school, but she has taught for many years at other schools.  She taught first grade at Wilson Elementary in Payson along with being their Title 1 Coordinator.  She was also the Title 1 Coordinator at Santaquin Elementary and taught Early Childhood classes at BYU.  She loves working with all of the teachers and faculty here at Goshen, and loves to see our students succeed.  She loves to read, play with her grandkids and travel with her husband.

Treat Policy

We have several new students to our school this year, so we thought we would remind parents what Goshen Elementary's treat policy is.  We follow Nebo School District's policy which states that all edible food/drinks must be store bought and commercially packaged.  We have included the policy from the District's handbook as a PDF link if you would like to read it.  Please find it as the second picture on this post.

This Week...

There are a few things going on in the next couple of days that we wanted to remind you of:

Tommorow (Thursday 9/22) will be Dental Varnishing Day.  This is not mandatory, but we ask that parents fill out and send back the blue paper that was sent home, whether or not you would like your child's teeth varnished.  This helps us know that all parents saw the note, and at least knows that the varnishing is available.

The Sky's the Limit in Mrs. Barber's Class

Submitted by krista.openshaw on

Mrs. Barber read the book Cordelia by Michelle Nelson-Schmidt.  It's about a little girl named Cordelia that can fly until she begins to listen to the negative thoughts of others around her, and they begin to bring her down.  She then realizes that she doesn't have to listen to them.  Once she decides this important lesson, she knows no bounds.

After reading the story, the class did an art project using crayons and watercolors.  The students drew their name in the clouds and colored the sky blue.
