Mrs. Openshaw was selected by her colleagues to receive the Crystal Apple Award.  The award was presented during faculty meeting by Craig Havey.  Her colleagues said the following:

She has a positive attitude with her students and her colleagues. She works hard to make her classroom a wonderful place of learning. She expects a lot from her students and pushes them to go farther than they believed they could go. She goes the extra mile as a teacher. She has innovative ideas and tries to find more and more ways to help her students learn. It is a pleasure working with her.

She often takes extra jobs or volunteers for a committee to help improve our school.  She works tirelessly to help her students succeed both as students and as individuals trying to find their way. She thinks outside the box and finds ways to make learning fun and engaging for everyone. Her students feel safe, respected, and excited to be in her classroom every day.

She brought the arts into her class by doing the opera last year and this year. She has positive communication with the students and parents. She is great at helping fellow teachers and staff.
