One of the blessing of living in rural Utah county has been the use of the bookmobile. Every other week on Tuesdays the van full of books comes to Goshen Elementary School. Classes of students quickly, but orderly, file into the bookmobile to check out two weeks worth of reading. In this picture, librarian Chad Bartlett, an employee of the Utah State Library System, receives books read from a patron before she goes back and gets a few more. Being a rural school serving the communities of Genola, Goshen, Elberta and Mosida, without a library in any of the four communities, the bookmobile has been a wonderful favor of the county government to Goshen School. However, now that the economy has had a downturn, tax revenues have drastically dropped and the county commissioners are considering discontinuing their contract with the state for the bookmobile services for rural Utah county. Alpine and Cedar Fort Elementaries in Alpine School District are the only other schools served by the bookmobile in this county, but several other rural communities are visited. Utah county does not have a county-wide library system, like Salt Lake county, so residents would have to pay a fee to check books out of libraries in nearby communities.
