Amazing Tutor is Helping One Child at a Time

Mike Christensen used to have grandchildren at Goshen Elementary.  Then he would come on a regular basis and help in the classrooms where his grandchildren learned.  Now the grandchildren are grown, but Grandpa Christensen still comes every Tuesday to help the rest of the students at Goshen Elementary.  He's been doing this for 8 years.     With Grandpa Christensen's beard of white, when he wears his Santa hat at Christmas time, quite a few heads turn in his direction to see if he is really Santa Claus checking for good boys and girls.  Whether it is Christmas or not, students love to read for Grandpa Christensen.  He pats them on the back and tells each one of the students how wonderful they are and how impressed he is with what they are able to read.  Just like their own grandfather would do if he came to the school.     Grandpa Christensen doesn't live across the street from the school, or even anywhere close.  He comes rain or shine from Pleasant Grove, which is over 30 miles away.  And he brings treats.  At least today he did for Valentine's Day.  He spends all of his donated time in Mrs. Renee Davis' second grade class, where he focuses his efforts with students who need someone with whom to practice their reading skills.  Mrs. Davis gets a lot of stuggling readers assigned to her class because of the great success she has in teaching students to read.  Mike Christensen is one of the reasons her students are so successful in learning to read.
